to ensure the water tanks will not impact the historical district.
The steps we’re taking
As part of the agreement between the EPA, NJ Dept. of Environmental Protection and others, PVWC has agreed to take the following action.
- PVWC will provide $2 million for capital rehabilitation projects on the raceway system.
- In addition, PVWC will fund and oversee the development of an independent engineering study to investigate the feasibility of sharing
water between the retention basin (pond) and the upper raceway.
- PVWC will retain an Architectural Historian to record and document existing conditions at the reservoir.
- A web page will be developed and interpretive signage installed to detail the history of the reservoir.
- The tanks will be colored to blend into the surrounding vegetation and will be situated as far from Grand Street as possible and
installed at the lowest possible point to minimize any visual impact.
- The landscaping plan includes an open water retention/detention basin (pond) along with a mixture of native plantings.
- The concrete fence posts will be rehabilitated and incorporated into a new perimeter fence.
- The Grand Street retaining wall will be repaired and rehabilitated.
