(Clifton, N.J. – August 9, 2024) – Once again, North Jersey is bracing for inclement weather, which means Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) has taken proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted water supply for its customers. “Our primary mission during inclement weather is to protect the reservoirs, pump stations and water treatment plant so that service to our customers will continue,” said Jim Mueller, executive director of PVWC.
Key elements of PVWC’s readiness plan include:
- Emergency Response Team: As a precautionary measure, PVWC’s emergency response team has mobilized and is on standby round-the-clock to promptly address and resolve any weather-related issues that may arise.
- Reservoir Inspection and Maintenance: Concrete barriers have been placed along New Street Reservoir in Woodland Park to block potential runoff/overflow from nearby bodies of water. PVWC also ensured that the property in which its reservoirs are located is clear of debris.
- Emergency Generators: PVWCinstalled four diesel-powered emergency generators totaling 12 megawatts of energy at its Little Falls Water Treatment Plant. In the event of an electrical failure in the area, the $29 million project ensures the generators, which have been operational since mid-July, will supply enough energy to power the raw water pumps and filtration plant, residuals facility and pumps distributing finished water to our distribution system.
- Community Outreach: PVWC is committed to keeping its customers informed about storm preparation through Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, and X. If you have not registered for our free notification system, please visit https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=pvwc.
Additionally, PVWC is prepared to address any IT issues that may occur during heavy rainfall. All vehicles will be filled up by the end of the day, cell phones will be charged, and staff are preparing to handle any emergencies that may arise.
