(Clifton, N.J. – November 14, 2024) – In light of yesterday’s drought warning issued by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) has implemented a series of strategic measures to ensure the continued delivery of clean drinking water to its customers, while encouraging responsible water usage across the region.
As the state faces persistent dry conditions and wildfires, PVWC is closely monitoring local water sources, assessing the impact on water supply, and adjusting operations to preserve the community’s vital resources. PVWC Executive Director Jim Mueller spoke at a virtual press conference yesterday hosted by Governor Phil Murphy and NJDEP Commissioner Shawn LaTourette, with the main topics being the wildfires around the state and responsible water usage. The press conference can be viewed here: Gov Murphy and DEP Commissioner LaTourette Hold Press Conference on Wildfire Response on Nov 13 2024.
“We are committed to providing our customers with safe, reliable water even during challenging conditions,” said Mr. Mueller. “While we are taking necessary precautions to maintain water supply, we strongly urge our customers to do their part by conserving water whenever possible.”
PVWC has cancelled its annual flushing program until further notice.
Conservation Tips
- Fix Leaks: A dripping faucet or running toilet can waste gallons of water each day. Check and repair leaks promptly.
- Shorten Showers: Aim to keep showers shorter and consider turning off the water while brushing teeth.
- Full Loads Only: Run dishwashers and washing machines only when full to maximize efficiency.
- Unauthorized Hydrant Usage: Only PVWC and fire personnel are permitted to use our hydrants. Should customers witness unauthorized hydrant usage, please contact our customer service department immediately at 973-340-4300, option #2.
PVWC will continue closely monitoring water levels and usage, and we are committed to ensuring the community’s needs are met during this time. PVWC appreciates the cooperation and effort of all residents and businesses in conserving water.
