(Clifton, N.J. – October 3, 2024) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) is proud to announce the completion of a large-scale infrastructure upgrade – the replacement of nearly 25% of about 5,000 fire hydrants owned and maintained by the company. The $11.5 million project, completed by Roman E&G Corp. under a two-year contract, marks a significant milestone in PVWC’s ongoing efforts to enhance the reliability and safety of its water system.

Hydrant Replacements Broken Down by Municipality:

  • Clifton – 328 replaced of 1,634 (20%)
  • Passaic – 145 replaced of 693 (21%)
  • Paterson – 483 replaced of 1,973 (24%)
  • Lodi – 136 replaced of 187 (72%)
  • North Arlington – 53 replaced of 325 (16%)

“As public stewards of health and safety, it is important to upgrade and maintain PVWC’s system, which includes replacing hydrants,” said Executive Director Jim Mueller. “It is our duty to ensure that our nearly 5,000 hydrants are in working order should the need for firefighting arise,” he added.

The company thanks the municipalities for working together to ensure these replacements were done efficiently and safely.
