*Update 5/19/2022: Work has been completed in Lodi and North Arlington.
As part of ongoing efforts to improve service to its customers, Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) will begin its annual Valve Operation Program on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Valve operation will be done within Lodi first, then North Arlington, and will continue until December 2021. Valve operation will be done during weekdays between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M.
What is valve operation and why is PVWC doing it?
- Valve operation consists of closing and opening each valve several times to remove sediment from the valve seat. It is an important preventative maintenance activity that verifies proper operation of valves in the system if the need for water main repairs or closures arises. Sections of a distribution system may need to be shut down to make repairs without interrupting service to other areas.
Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) assures all customers that the water will be safe for use during this period; however, there may be some unavoidable water discoloration at any time during valve operation. Customers are encouraged to run the cold water faucets at full force after valve operation for a short period to determine if the water is clear before washing clothes (or any other processing) as staining may occur.
