FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Clifton, NJ – April 10, 2025) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) has announced its partnership with SHARES to provide much-needed assistance to households struggling to pay their water bills. The SHARES Municipal Customer Assistance Program (MCAP) is designed to support income-qualified households facing temporary financial hardship, including job loss, illness, or other crises.

Under this initiative, eligible households can receive up to $200 in grants per utility (water, sewer, or electric) annually. To qualify, applicants must meet specific income guidelines—households earning at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level—along with requirements such as having an active utility account and being in arrears on their utility bills.

“This partnership with SHARES enables us to support our community members who are experiencing financial struggles,” said PVWC Executive Director Jim Mueller. “It is essential that we provide a safety net for those in need, ensuring that they have access to the basic utilities necessary for health and well-being.”

Eligibility is determined by household size and income, with specific provisions for seniors and individuals with disabilities. The assistance is intended to cover consumption charges only, not deposits or reconnection fees, and is paid directly to the utility company.

Households applying for the program must submit documentation such as proof of income, ID, and utility bills. The assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis until the program’s funds are depleted.
