Programs

Valve Maintenance and Flushing Program

PVWC periodically flushes its systems to ensure that the fire hydrants are in good working order and to maintain the quality of our water. Occasionally, water main flushing can result in discolored water. These conditions are not harmful and do not last very long. Customers are encouraged to avoid using washing machines, dishwashers or other water using devices during flushing operations. Briefly running the cold water tap may help to clear discolored water. If discolored water or low pressure persists after several hours please call PVWC Customer Service at 973-340-4300.

Lead Service Line Replacements

PVWC is committed to providing clean and reliable drinking water to all customers. Our records indicate that there are lead and galvanized steel service lines in Clifton, Passaic, Paterson and Prospect Park. PVWC will be removing these service lines by 2025, before the 2031 state mandate. If you live in these towns, removing your lead or galvanized steel service line is FREE and REQUIRED by law. Renters and homeowners are eligible to participate.

This website explains how to find out if you have a lead or galvanized steel service line and what to do if you need to replace your service line. It also outlines actions you can take to reduce your exposure to lead in drinking water, and where to go if you have questions.

Water Main Transmission Repairs

PVWC has ongoing Capital Improvement Projects to clean & line water main transmission lines and to replace lines where deemed appropriate. Due to the extensive inventory of existing lines that need repair or replacement, these Capital Projects are planned, undertaken and completed within the constraints of available time and resources.
